Success Stories
Peggy's New Start
Peggy spent more than two years surviving as a stray in Nacogdoches before she was finally rescued in heartbreaking condition. Severe matting had cut off the blood supply to one of her front feet, resulting in amputation, while her other front foot had a serious wound. She was also suffering from a severe hookworm infestation that had left her weak and malnourished.
With the dedicated care of North Street Vet, Nacogdoches Animal Shelter, and Dr. Maddox, Peggy began her long road to recovery.
Today, this sweet girl is healing, happy, and finally experiencing the love and care she always deserved. 6a From surviving on the streets to getting her second chance - Peggy's story is why we rescue. ®
Oliver's Story
George Jones was found running the streets with a stick lodged in the back of his throat & a body full of fleas. Luckily the nice folks at the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter picked him up & got him to safety with us. The generous vets at North Street then stepped in to get that pesky stick out of his throat, thank goodness! George tested positive for heartworm so he settled into foster & began treatment to get rid of those yucky worms. He is now heartworm negative and living his best life in New Jersey with a partner rescue of ours.
Maya's Story
Maya belonged to a kind woman who adopted her years ago from an animal shelter and they had been each others' loving companions ever since. Unfortunately, Maya's mom needed care landing her in a nursing home. When it was determined that she would not be able to come back home, Maya found herself all alone and in need of a loving new family. The house Maya was living in was then sold, and the neighbor, not able to take her in but wanting to help, was going to surrender Maya back to the shelter she was originally adopted from. That’s when NFR jumped in to help. Maya settled into foster and proved what a total gem she is. Today, Maya lives in New Jersey with her fantastic new family!
